Good write-up, and the point about how sparse Tuscany's hill country actually is (carry your own food and water because there is nothing between towns) matches what we see on this same ground. One thing worth adding for anyone tempted to turn a loop like this into a longer trip: doing it self-guided with luggage moved ahead each night means you are not also carrying overnight kit across those same empty stretches past Castiglion del Bosco and Buonconvento, just the day's food and water.
